A proposal to hire more police officers rather than pay up to $100
million in overtime died in the Budget Committee Monday.
The measure,
which would have diverted $25 million in the 2014 city budget to hire at least
200 and as many as 500 more officers, was tabled under a motion by Ald. James
Balcer (11th), head of the Public Safety Committee.
Budget Director Alexandra Holt testified Monday that, while a rookie
officer has a salary of $43,000, total first-year costs of hiring that officer
were $76,000.
"The costs begin to accumulate quite quickly," Holt added,
with police salary topping $100,000 within four years.
Really? Someone has been shorting us then.
Let's get out the calculators. We're owed at least a quarter million at those
rates. Anyone else want to hop on this one?
Shootings are up, other crime stats are artifically down due to false reporting and citizen safety is at all time lows and this dies in committee.
The Alderman have no trouble giving themselves raises but table anything that has to do with public safety.
The commander of a West Side police district is leaving to become a
police chief in the suburbs — prompting an alderman to demand that Chicago
Police Supt. Garry McCarthy fill the position with a black candidate.
At
a budget hearing last month, Ald. Jason Ervin (28th) engaged in a heated
confrontation with McCarthy over his decision to transfer James O’Grady, who is
white, to the predominately black Harrison District.
“We have a lot of
people at the table. They felt this was just a slap in the face,” Ervin said
Monday, adding that West Side residents are planning a news conference before
Wednesday’s City Council meeting to turn up the heat on McCarthy.
Heat? They just had a black commander. And
before that, a Polynesian - she was Polynesian, right? She went through her
career telling everyone she was Polynesian...."The Lyin' Hawaiian" if we
recall.
In any event, this is "a slap in the face" because only black
officers, sergeants, lieutenants and commanders can patrol black areas, right?
The community is scarred and fractured over a white guy running the joint for

put our community through that kind of strife,” Ervin said of the transition of
O’Grady becoming commander in Harrison.
We drove through 011 the other day and you can
barely recognize the place. Irish flags flying every where, streets mostly clean
and pothole free, brand new construction and high rises all over the place.
Someone even said the Italians were moving back into Our Lady of the
Angels.

Imagine the slap in the face I felt back when I was looked over for promotion to sergeant for no other reason than because I am NOT black. True. We had a thing called race-norming and because of that and only because of that I lost out on my promotion.
If it was ranked by test scores I had it but it wasn't. Someone who scored many points beneath me got the promotion instead. I am retired now and lost out on the sergeants pension.
This blog and this commenter are both wrong and liars. In this great democratic country, if laws did not protect he minority, none would ever get any higher than the lowest position offered and might not get that.
A 20-year-old man on parole in a 2009 carjacking is the second person charged in the slaying of a veteran UPS employee who was gunned down in a robbery as he walked to a West Garfield Park "L" stop on his way to work late Tuesday, Cook County prosecutors said.
Charged Friday afternoon was Derrick Williams, 20, who police said was the gunman who fatally shot Michael Sullivan, 53, as he walked to the Pulaski Green Line "L" stop on his way to work. Earlier Friday, Rayshon Williams, 16, was ordered held on $1 million bond after being charged as an adult with murder Sullivan's slaying.

Derrick Williams was paroled from prison in May in connection with an aggravated vehicular hijacking that took place about 8:40 p.m. on Nov. 18, 2009, in the 200 block of North Karlov Avenue, according to court and police records. He had been sentenced to serve 7 years. Rayshon Williams is on parole in a juvenile possession of a controlled substance case from 2012 when he was arrested, prosecutors said.
And according to a number of e-mails, this is a west side rarity - a legit victim, set to retire and enjoy his golden years with the grandkids, now nothing but a memory.

When it comes to minority areas and especailly the 10th, 11th District, the Officers are already have come down with the flu. The Hobroes, Conservative Vice Lords have "ran" the west side for at least fifty years and are only now being prosecuted after years of destroying total families, who themselves have been accused of being the criminals and then found themselves fighting the gangbangers and the criminal charges.

I was on the scene of this incident and I knew right away this was a legit victim (not some shithead shot by other shithead). What shame but this is what happens when everyone wants to be politically correct and ignore the reality of the situation
How was he able to determine a "legit victim?" The HoBros boast of calling their victim,s thieves or accuse them of engaging in other criminal activity to the police until "a stupid cop starts trying to arrest them." A victim is a victim, if they stop trying to play God and Judge, Jury and Excutioner, crime would go down considerably and productive, smart people could live their lives out happily.

The politicians on the west side especially only care about staying in office, in spite, of complainging about low pay they say these positions pay, this is the most money these idiots will get and they will join with the devil to keep these positions even though they know they are unqualified. They know that the public is too stupid to realize they are being taken and a few throw out a few token schlorships here and there and hold annual back-to-school picnics to keep the masses appeased.
The only problem with you Officer is that too many Chicago Police Officers get caught robbing and raping right along with the gangbangers and their politician friends.

I work in a very busy district. There are a lot of decent "black and brown folks" in the 10th district. So when they let one of those "innocent black or brown inmates" out, guess who is the victim usually? That is right, the "black or brown legit person who plays by the rules". These politicians are pure assholes. They care about the evil doers but not the people who work their tail off day in and day out.
The 10th District is a very busy district and too many of your Oficers are very busy getting caught robbing and raping right along with the Hobroes and dope boys. The politicians care about the evil doers only to keep themselves in office with their votes and he corrupt cops like them to use them to cover their own evil crimes. Thepoliticians may even hate the people who work their tail off day in and day because that person may realize the travesty of these unqualififed idiots in office and run agains them.
It seems new Officers are smarter or may be better trained than some of the older Officers in the 10th District or it may be McCarthy's policing strategies that statistics show crime is going down.
In a stunning development this morning, the 19th district handled two calls of off-duty police officers being jumped, apparently in two separate incidents near Wrigley Field around 5 o'clock this morning. Few details are available at this hour.
In the first incident, an off-duty officer who was riding his bike to work was jumped by four men near the intersection of Grace and Sheffield. An on-duty unit made contact with the officer and the officer is OK. According to a "flash" issued to on-duty officers, the attackers, described as four male blacks in their 20's, were last seen running south and possibly west from the scene of the attack. One offender wore a red sweat jacket with two white stripes and the other three offenders wore all black. News of the attack came first from the 19th district desk.
Moments later, at 5:07AM, dispatchers announced that two off-duty offers sought shelter in the CFD firehouse at 1052 W. Waveland, just outside of Wrigley's left field wall. According to dispatch reports, the police officers went to to fire station for help after being "beaten up." No further information is available at this time.
So in a single weekend, we have 7 attacks on officers at 6 locations. But hey, crime is down!

This is another example of out of control violence and more importantly, bad policing. This is not a criticism of Chicago's policing tactics, but of the fact that we have had several Commanders in the last few years and none have addressed the problem of gangs until recently.
Even with the help of Senator Mark Kirk, gangs still run wild, brazenly attacking females, which is usually not reported in mainstream media, and robbing and now more and more, assaulting the cops along with private citizens.
It is obvious we need citizens to report more violence and crime and we need police to take a more pro-active stance against the gangbangers and the people who collaborate with them.
It is not too late, we still may need to call in the National Guard. The police are being assaulted more and more, so it is time for some assistance.
Senator Kirk had it partially correct when he stated he wanted "all of them arrested." All means some politicians, nuisance business owners as well as the thugs that make this city a cess pool and have earned it the nickname "Chi-raq."
To do this, we may need the National Guard and soon it time to admit the situation is out of control and stop this madness.

Crack cocaine and powder cocaine are the same drug, but because blacks use crack more than whites, the penalty for crack is a felony while the penalty for powder cocaine is a misdemeanor.
Another teen has decided that the gun is the answer to the unrelenting violence and bullying that he was experiencing. Throughout the video, they are rude, refuse to speak to either of the gentleman asking questions, direct the gentlemen to "kiss my ass" and Cong Davis calls the police to remove them from the restaurant. Cong Danny Davis reportedly sponsors the "Second Chance Bill" and others designed to give people with felony convictions a second chance to obtain employment and live life without the handicap of being a convicted felon. Cong Davis is often seen yelling for the police concerning these "poor people who need a second chance" if they ask a question he does not like or attempt to ask a question as he does Mark and the others on this Youtube video. Michael Scott and Rickey Hendon also on the video are not in this order, dead from suicide and resigned from office while being investigated for couruption.

The City Council is now embroiled in a conflict over ward remapping. Why? Because 175,000 black have left Chicago and are losing their status as the majority. Black Alderman want to take the wards from the white community, while the Hispanic communities are gaining wards. Its obvious, our politicians are doing nothing but collected salaries as public school children are killed in records numbers,in fact, in the past 2-3 years, there was a running total of public school kids killed, child sex traffickers/human traffickers run wild and brutally assault law abiding citizens while our politicians do nothing and curse out their "constituents" and/or call the police to them if they dare ask what they are doing to help stop the violence and corruption. As for the police, they are arresting each other, have also been getting killed in record numbers, cannot find a Superintendent without a lot of controversy and in some areas of the city, mostly African American are useless or worse as they sometimes in error target the victims as the criminal. the unending groups of people being released from prison or having their convictions overturned is a testament to that.
Still, corruption runs rampant. The last election, I voted for Jesus Christ or God in several races. if I meet a politician in my daily activities, which I sometimes do, I decline to volunteer to do anything for these corrupt, useless individuals and now knowing they are mostly corrupt and useless, they can kiss my ass.
